190 New Acres Forbidden To Hunting …. & Counting
Even Jenny Rogers's horses were ready to defend their land when cub hunting took place right on their doorstep last week.
A lovely photo appeared on our Facebook page on Friday. Jenny Rogers posted it, showing two horses looking over a gate with a Hounds Off NO HUNTING notice attached. The local hunt held an early morning meet in the area last week and it helped persuade them to avoid the property on this occasion. We hope they continue to keep their hounds off land where they are not wanted.
There was lots of positive feedback from our online community. Jenny wrote the following in response;
“Thank you for your comments. We have protected our farm for the past 30 years but last March the hunt sent their dogs onto our land and chased our foxes. It was a horrible day as I desperately tried to stop the hounds on my own. This year I decided it was going to be different! Seeing as the hunt believe they are above the law and happily chase and kill foxes throughout our countryside daily, we spoke to neighbours who agreed to be added to our boundaries for ‘no hunting’. This took our fox oasis to 130 acres. Since then 3 more neighbours have contacted me with another 60 acres! I encourage everyone to do this no matter how small your garden. We were sat last year in a friends 1/4 acre garden with our young children playing when a whole pack of hounds ran into the garden and started baying. The riders/followers were no where near and had no control. If the hunt had received a letter stating that the hounds were not allowed there and there were posters up then they would have to have made more effort to control them and we hope would keep their distance. Just think if we all did this and encourage others too. Soon they will run out of ‘safe’ land to ride through where their hounds can keep contained, or face prosecutions. Together we can stop them.”
The conversation continued. Cheryl Woodall enthused, “That’s brilliant and I’m so so pleased that a fellow country dweller and horse owner has stood up to the hunt! I come from a huge hunting area and feel like a Alien because of my views. It takes courage to stand up for your beliefs in a pro hunt area as they can be intimidating and the local police turn a blind eye and let the hunt flaunt the law daily! It’s so corrupt.”
Jenny replied, “Hi Cheryl, we run a horse retirement charity on our farm so have about 20 elderly horses. We combine this with conservation and are in the process of turning our farm into a nature reserve. The hunt have been trying to get on our land for years and we have always felt helpless. Now I think the times are changing and as soon as I stood up to them I was amazed at the support from neighbours and friends.”
We salute these folks, and people everywhere, who actively oppose illegal bloodsports, make their homes and gardens sanctuaries for wildlife, engage with us and others via social media, write letters to the papers, or do one of the many things we can all do to voice our disapproval of hunting with dogs for sport.
Despite being a minority pastime, hunters continue to have an out-of-proportion influence over rural communities. One of the great things which Jenny has demonstrated through her actions is that when you do come out as anti hunting others take heart and feel able to speak up too. It’s nice to know that you’re in good company.
Illegal hunting is widespread. Until politicians act to reinforce existing legislation, and while we wait for the police to take enforcing it seriously, warning hunts to keep their hounds off our farms, smallholdings, paddocks and gardens is something which is really making a positive difference.

Thrilled to bits that at last some land owners are standing up to the bullying hunts. Hopefully these will develop into a Movement Against Hunts and show them that land owners have had enough of these criminals trespassing on their property and destroying precious wildlife. Excellent news.

Such heartening news amongst all the doom & gloom of hunting. With Hounds Off, as well as the hunt saboteurs, there is hope for a future without all the cruelty inflicted on our wildlife !

I am so pleased. only yesterday my mum said that a farmer had been on the local news devastated as the local hunt had ignored him, gone onto his land and killed the rabbits he actually feeds including a white rabbit. I think he is now taking it further. I am chuffed that land owners are now standing up to local hunts. it is terrible they have been getting away with so many crimes! well done Jenny & co

Hi needing your help asp! Ive own my own land! Yet i don’t no how to stop hunts people trespassing on it!! Today i was awaking with 20 hounds running through my land and several men with guns walking through my woodland! My heart sank when i heard the hounds had there kill!! These men were on my land without permision! How can i prevent this in the future? Mrs lloyd.

Brilliant what u are doing cannot be easy cannot believe the police are not enforcing the law but it must come from the top well done u though it will stop some of the hunting and yes they must be able to control their dogs I believe you can only take four out at a time might be wrong but have heard that so same should go for hounds I really wish u well with all that u are doing please continue

This a is a brave and wonderful thing to do. I don’t have the land but if I did I’d be out with a shotgun if these morons came charging through it. Trespass is a crime also.

If the hounds went onto her land and chased the foxes, the police should be informed as what they did was illegal, as well as being morally offensive.

Great idea but surely it should be that they can only hunt -not really chasing foxes, of course- on land where they HAVE permission, it should not be for the landowner to tell them to keep out but for them to only go where they might still be welcome.
Currently it seem the assumption is that everyone is pro-hunting when we know the opposite is true. Let them keep themselves and their hounds out of private property UNLESS they have permission.

It is so brilliant to see and hear some one standing up the rich and supposed country side alliance, they do not worry about peoples property, the injuries and terror they inflict on those poor defenceless animals they pursue and tear to peices, let us set the off bein chased by a pack of dogs with the scent of a fox over their body and see how long they lasr, you will never succeed in this world all the while that the Tories suck up to the wealthy and rich hunters

this will work I think. many who live in the countryside are against the killing of our wildlife for so called sport. we need to make our voices firmly heard that say ABSOLUTELY NO MORE FOX HUNTING, NO MORE AGGRESSIVE INTIMIDATION FROM HUNTERS AND THEIR OUT OF CONTROL FOLLOWERS AND TERRIER MEN. WE WANT THE POLICE TO ENFORCE THE ANTI HUNTING LAW AND TAKE THESE VIOLENT PRO HUNTERS TO COURT WHEN THEY BREAK LAWS.

I live in Rugby Warwickshire where we do have a local hunt. I have only seen it twice since coming here from Essex/E. London border 12 years ago. I have always been against animal cruelty and this is one of the cruelist imaginable. I wish you the very best of luck with your mammoth quest to irradicate this parasitic so called “SPORT”. I live on a housing estate and know if I had open land I would definitely be joining you in your cause

The only thing is what if the hunt ignore your hounds off notice. Do you have any comeback if they come on your land. Hope eventually there will be nowhere for these evil people to kill wildlife. all the best wishes to you.

Well done, at least landowners are standing u for the persecuted fox. Until the police start enforcing the law as it was laid down it is up to the landowners to prevent access. We need the hunting laws strengthening NOT repealing as this government is trying to do! Well done all concerned ♥

As a town dweller who is fervently against all forms of blood ‘sports’ I thank and salute you, Jenny and Cheryl and all protectors of animals. I can understand that it must be very much more difficult for those of you who live amongst the followers of this appalling pastime as these arrogant people are powerful and feel themselves above the law. In fact they often appear to be so as the police seem to be on their side. So, once again, thank you for your courage and bless you.

I think what everyone is doing is fantastic if I had some land I would certainly do the same thank you all for the kindness that you are showing our wildlife needs all the help we can give them this SO called sport needs to go in the history books where it belongs and never allowed to happen again

It´s wonderful to know there places where innocent animals will be safe and protected like having shelter where run to and hide and feel saved.It´s a great thing to get to know there are humane feelings and compassion defenless wildlife.

You deserve the utmost respect for what you have done, I wish more people would follow your example. The hunting fraternity think they are above the law, they can’t stampede all over peoples property as if they own the countryside and destroy the wildlife.

It’s great if you can enforce your ban and the authorities comply with the law. We don’t get much fox hunting in Paisley but I’m sure the hunting laws are broken here too. I’d be happy to add my patch to any restrictions. Hope it all works well for you. X

Restricting the land that hunts can use is an extremely effective way of making life difficult for the hunts to continue terrorising OUR wildlife. Thanks for the stance taken and thanks to HoundsOff for the continued campaign to starve the hunts of territory. This tactic works !
